On Monday, the Paleo diet had 50,000+ on Google trends. I thought it may be worth mentioning today because I have been following this diet for the past 3 months. This shouldn’t even be called a diet because it’s not! It is a way of eating healthy. So, what is Paleo? It originated in the concept of the Paleolithic era in which men would eat food that they could hunt, fish, or pick; that’s basically a cavemen diet J. What do I eat? Grass-produced meats, Fish/seafood, Fresh fruits and veggies, Eggs, Nuts and seeds, Healthful oils (Olive, walnut, flaxseed, macadamia, avocado, coconut). What don’t I eat? Cereal grains, Legumes (including peanuts), Dairy, Refined sugar, Potatoes, Processed foods, Salt, Refined vegetable oils.
Why did I decide to follow Paleo? A hypothyroid condition started to create many other issues and after doing some research, I found that people following Paleo were feeling better and I DO FEEL BETTER. I sleep better, I have more energy, I work out better, and the best part… I’ve lost 13pounds!
I would have thought that it was going to be difficult but it turned out so great! The ideal is to find what works for you and what doesn’t. Balancing proteins, fiber, healthy fats, and minerals is the key. Of course, with my lifestyle, travelling quite a bit, it is not always easy and yes, I have days where I make exceptions by force or by choice. The important is to stick to it and know that exceptions are O.K.
Remember: no grain, no dairy, no sugar. By the way… Did you know that there is something called the carbohydrate addiction? I do believe that we are a society addicted to carbs!
